PTI1004 – “If You Can’t Find Skilled Workers, Develop Your Own”

Everyone has read about the “skilled worker shortage” – especially in the manufacturing sector. This is nothing new, just exacerbated by the disruption of the recent economic events. Waiting for schools and community colleges to train the skilled workers needed is not really a strategy. Even the most advanced technical colleges have never been able, nor should they since they have a broader target market, to train workers for a specific employer. The employer has always been required to provide accurate, job-specific training. Most rely on on informal, undocumented and immeasurable on-the-job training which works to a minimal degree, causing employers to suffer  from worker under-capacity and limited work quantity, quality and compliance (ISO/AS/IATF and Nadcap quality programs and OSHA)– all adding dramatically to the cost of labor.
